Ik kan me geen leukere zaterdagavondbezigheid voorstellen dan met je vriendje naar een concert gaan. Op zaterdag 11 april 2015 ging ik dan ook, vergezeld door mijn vriend, naar het concert van Blind Guardian in Trix. Ik kende de Duitse band wel, maar behalve The Bard's Song kon ik geen enkel ander nummer meezingen. Door de sfeer en de hoge kwaliteit van de muziek werd het toch een heerlijke avond!
ENGLISH: I can't imagine a more fun thing to do on a Satuday night than going to a concert with my boyfriend. So that's exactly what I did on Saturday the 11th of April 2015. We went to the Blind Guardian concert in Trix, Antwerp, Belgium. I knew the Germns band, but I could only sing along to one song. Thanks to the atmosphere and the high quaity music it was a really nice night!
Blind Guardien bracht als voorprogramma de Israëlische band Orphaned Land mee. Ik had nog nooit van de band gehoord, maar hun performance heeft me volledig overtuigd. Ik ben wel te vinden voor hun metalmuziek met Arabische invloeden. Na hun optreden kocht ik dan ook meteen hun album en het heeft de afgelopen week al veel keer mogen ronddraaien in mijn radiospeler. Later ontdekte ik dat de band ook op Graspop speelt dit jaar. I'll definitely be there! En aan het enthousiasme van het publiek op het concert te zien, zal ik niet de enige zijn!
ENGLISH: The support act was an Isrealian band called Orphaned Land. I had never heard of them before and I didn't know what to expect at all, but their performance completely convinced me. They combine metal music with Arabic influences and it turned out very catchy! I bought their album immediattely after their performance and it has been on repeat a lot of times already! I also found out they will be playing at Graspop this year, so I'll definitely check them out again there. And since everyone in the venue seemed to really like this band, I'm sure I won't be the only one there!
Tijdens de pauze tussen voor- en hoofdprogramma vulde de zaal zich snel. Iedereen wilde een goede plaats, liefst zo ver mogelijk vooraan, hebben voor Blind Guardian. Het feit dat de band al meer dan tien jaar niet meer in Antwerpen heeft gespeeld, speelde vast ook een rol in de drukte, maar ik had de populariteit van de band zwaar onderschat. Tijdens de twee uur durende setlist ging er geen enkel nummer voorbij dat niet luidkeels werd meegezongen en waarbij niet hard werd geapplaudisseerd. De kwaliteit van de muziek bleef het hele concert extreem hoog en de zanger vertelde ons dat het concert werd opgenomen en dat er waarschijnlijk enkele nummers van die avond op hun volgende live cd komen. Het concert was aangenaam om naar te luisteren (met oordoppen, zonder was praktisch onmogelijk, aangezien de muziek heel luid stond), maar het visuele mocht nog wat meer zijn. Mooie lichtshow, dat wel, maar ik had graag nog een paar extra showelementen gezien!
ENGLISH: Between support and main act, the venue got pretty crowded. Everybody was really excited to see Blind Guardian. The band apparently hadn't played in Antwerp for over more then ten years and they are very popular. I definitely underestimated their popularity! The audience kept on singing and applauding all along the way. The two hours long concert was a little bit boring to look at (I expected a bit more of show), but the quality of the music was extremely high. And it stayed that high during the entire show! The singer told us that if we sang along good enough, a couple of the songs of that night might end up on their next live album. The crow got even more enthusiastic than it already was and the atmosphere was always very lovely. It was a great show and although I only knew one song, I had a blast!
